German hill (Korsvoll hill)

Arrival and parking

By metro, take line 6 towards Sognsvann, and get off at Sognsvann, or Kringsjå for even shorter walks. By bus, take route 25 towards Lørenskog, and get off at Korsvollbråtan. Then you are right at the entrance to Tyskertoppen. By car, you drive towards Rikshospitalet, but take off towards Sognsvann (see signs) and follow this road all the way up to the car park.

About German hill (Korsvoll hill)

Korsvolltoppen was named Tyskertoppen after the Germans in 1940 placed an artillery position here. In addition, six 88 mm cannons and radar were placed here, 5-6 barracks were built for the commanders and a bunker was made into the rock. There was also a minefield by Carl Kjelsen’s road. It was not used much during the war, but when the Americans bombed Kjeller in 1944, they were shot at from this position.

Rating

It is not far from Sognsvann to Tyskertoppen, but you can, for example, walk along Carl Kjelsens Vei, via Tyskertoppen, down to Akerselva, up to Maridalsvannet, and home if you want a longer trip. Either way, it is definitely worth a visit to Tyskertoppen. You have an interesting history, as well as a good view of Oslo. When we were here maintenance was performed, so we could not get up close to the building.
